We built Anglers Cove with one belief: your fishing spots are yours. Not ours. Not the community's. Yours — unless you choose to share them.
How it works
When you log a catch, your phone may capture your GPS location. Your precise coordinate is never sent to our servers or stored in our database. It is used momentarily on-device to request current weather conditions from Open-Meteo, a third-party weather service, and is not retained by us.
When you add a spot you choose who can see it: keep it entirely private, share it with a select group, or open it to the community. For catches, your last-used choice is remembered and pre-selected next time — so a habit of posting privately stays private by default. You can change any spot or catch's visibility at any time.
Community Analytics is a per-catch checkbox — off by default every time you log a catch. If you check it, your location is fuzzed to approximately 1 km before being stored anonymously. No name, no account identifier, no traceable location. Just a general area that helps the community understand fish patterns. Nothing is ever contributed without your explicit choice.
You set the audience for each catch individually: public, followers only, or private. A spot-on catch you want to share? Public. A personal best at your secret honey hole? Private. The choice is always yours, post by post.
Your data is yours to keep or remove. You can permanently delete your account and every piece of data associated with it from Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account. Removed from active systems immediately. Residual data in backup infrastructure is purged consistent with our provider's retention schedule.
What other users can never see
What we will never do
Store your precise GPS coordinates in our database
Share your spot location with other users without your explicit permission
Sell your catch or location data to third parties, fishing companies, or mapping services
Show other users your exact fishing location
Use your catch locations for ad targeting
Make community analytics automatic — it is a per-catch checkbox, always off by default, never contributed without your explicit choice
We fish too. We know what a truly great spot means — the years it took to find, the conditions you learned, the memories made there. The last thing we'd ever want to do is be the reason that spot gets crowded.
Privacy isn't a feature we added to the app. It's how the app was designed from the start. The database doesn't store what it doesn't need. The controls aren't buried — they're on every catch and every spot.
We think you deserve to know exactly how it works. So we wrote it down.
